Dear IADVL Members,
It is a true honor to accept the position of Honorary Secretary for the esteemed IADVL-Delhi state branch. I am humbled to follow in the footsteps of the many respected leaders who have dedicated themselves to our growing association. My greatest satisfaction comes from contributing to our community, no matter the scale, to improve the professional lives of our members.
Over the last decade and a half, dermatology has evolved tremendously. We have expanded far beyond treating skin diseases to embrace new specialties like Dermatosurgery, Aesthetic Dermatology, Trichology, Pediatric Dermatology, Dermatopathology, and Allergy & Immunology. This growth, fueled by the contributions of both senior and junior dermatologists, has vastly broadened our scope. New topics such as Contact Dermatitis, Eczema, Hair Transplantation, and Dermoscopy are now prominent parts of our field.
Despite this progress, we still face significant challenges. The misuse of topical corticosteroids, the prevalence of over-the-counter medications, the societal pressure of “fairness mania,” and the deep-seated stigma against conditions like Vitiligo, AIDS, Leprosy, Psoriasis, and Alopecia are serious concerns. We also have to contend with quackery from non-medicos and unqualified practitioners, and we must constantly educate our patients to counter harmful misinformation spread by influencers and beauty bloggers.
I urge our community to unite and work together to confront these issues. By developing well-planned, strategic countermeasures and strengthening our fraternity, we can not only protect our profession but also achieve our core mission of improving the quality of life for our patients.
Our path forward is to foster collective growth by helping each member acquire new skills that enhance clinical dermatology care. The IADVL-DSB branch is proud to continue our rich academic tradition with a full calendar of programs, including Academic Conclaves, SIG Programmes and various workshops and conferences.
I strongly encourage all members to actively participate and share their valuable insights. Your new ideas and suggestions are always welcome, and you can share them directly with me or any of the Executive Committee members.
This year’s presidential Community Dermatology programs are vital. IADVL DSB is fully committed to the efforts of providing community service to the needy and poor as a part of our social responsibility.
I urge all members to use the social media posts provided by our team to promote a crucial message to the public: IADVL dermatologists are the only true skin specialists. The public must be educated to consult only IADVL verified and qualified dermatologists.
I also want to highlight the benefits of joining the DVL Welfare Trust, a social security scheme created for IADVL members, by IADVL members.
With your cooperation and support, I am confident we can move towards achieving our goal: ‘Better Skin Care for All’.
Thank you and sincerely,
Dr Rahul Arora
